Course Description:

 

This course is intended to introduce the candidates to the teachings and writing of the early Church Fathers and provide historical background on the Pre-Nicene and Nicene eras; the Post-Nicene era through St. Jerome; and St. Augustine and the patristic period.

 

The candidates will focus on the sacraments and doctrine of the Church and what the early Church Fathers wrote about them. Topics of particular interest will include the Mass, the Real Presence Papacy, Grace, Trinity, Baptism, Marriage, Marian doctrine. And other topics

 

The candidates will prepare presentation on topic assigned and present them during class periods. Presentations, where practical, will be made by a team of two candidates working together.

 

 

Evaluation:

 

The candidates will be evaluated on the thoroughness of their presentations, as well as papers written on assigned topic. Additionally, candidates will be evaluated on how well they work as a team.
