Introduction

Description:
This course is intended to be an introduction
for the student to the discipline of Canon Law. This
two part course will introduce the student into the historical
nature of the Law of the Church as well as a basic introduction to
each of the seven books of the Code of Canon Law, 1983.
Moreover, the student shall attain a grasp of the nature of
the law as it structures the Church, protects rights as well as
serve as a basis for sound processes and administration. In part
one of the course, books one and two will be considered in
depth.
In part two of the course, books three and four, as well as
other pastoral aspects relevant to the Diaconate will be considered
in detail.
Resources Needed:
While all four of these resources are useful,
for the class, only the CLSA commentary will be required.

Maroon colored version of the Code of Canon
Law
Handbook: A
Handbook on Canon Law, authored by J.T. Martin de Agar
CLSA
Commentary: The New Commentary on the Code
of Canon Law, edited by CLSA.
Companion: The
Pastoral Companion, by J.M. Huels.
Grading:
Grading will include at least a midterm and a
final exam as well as summary papers to be given, thus showing an
understanding of the Code of Canon Law.
