Archdiocese of
Atlanta
Office of the
Permanent Diaconate Formation
Attendance Policy
(Revised January 30,
2003)
All men in formation/Aspirancy are
required to be present on all designated class days and all days of
spiritual formation (Retreats, Days of Reflection, Communion
Services, and Holy Hours). Attendance is mandatory at all functions
unless otherwise directed.
It is highly desirable for wives of
candidate to fully participate in the Diaconal Formation Program by
attending classes and participating in those spiritual formation
programs that are not specifically designated for
candidates/aspirants alone.
Wives are required to attend those days
of spiritual formation specifically intended for them and those
joint spiritual formation days requiring attendance of
candidates/aspirants and wives. These days will be identified
sufficiently in advance to allow for adequate planning. If, for some
important reason, a man or woman has knowledge ahead of time that
they will need to be absent on a required day, they are obliged to
request, in writing, permission from the Director of Formation at
the earliest possible time, preferable at least one week in advance.
Postal service or e-mail may be used for this purpose.
In the event an emergency situation
arises or if a man or woman becomes ill, they must contact the
Director of Formation by telephone advising him of the situation.
This must be followed by a formal written statement explaining the
circumstances of the absence. This must be accomplished within one
week of the absence.
A maximum of one excused absence
and no unexcused absences are allowed during the school year
(calendar year). All candidates/aspirants exceeding these limits
will be subject to review by the Diaconal Formation Review
Board.
It is the responsibility of the
candidate/aspirant to obtain from a classmate all work covered on
the day of absence and to complete all work
assignments |
