Course Syllabus

Course Description

 

The primary objective of this course is to provide the student with a solid foundation regarding the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic Church.  We will read the entire Catechism by the end of the course, having focused during class periods on the substantive issues addressed in the document, the history of the document itself, and the development of Church teachings and traditions through the ages that constitute the basis of the Catechism we now have as the official Catechism for the Universal Church.  By the end of the course, the Aspirant will have a clear understanding of the teachings and traditions of the Church he wishes to serve.

Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition.  English Translation For the United States of America .

Citta del Vaticano: Libreria Editrice Vaticana, Latin Text 1994, 1997

 

A number of study guides will be made available as required reading during the course of the year.

 

Requirements and Grading

 

Attendance at all classes, with enough preparation to be a contributor to class discussions.  Final Grade will be determined by an assessment of the quality of class participation and contribution, and grading of term papers and/or projects as assigned.
