Course Description

An Introduction to the Spiritual Life of the Permanent Deacon.

Individual sessions will be devoted to the following components:

Diaconal Vocation:

1. Vocation - A Call to God Experience
2. Nourishment and Strengthening of God Experience by a Call to Prayer

·         Prayer of the Psalms – Prayer of the Church

3. The Closeness to God of a Deacon
   • Modeled on Moses
   • Modeled on Abraham
   • Modern Parable
4. Diaconate Vocation – A call within the above call

·        Jesus Christ calling and choosing

·        “The harvest is great, the laborers are few,” contains the identity of the diaconate vocation

5. Vocation to service – St. Stephen and his preaching
6. Missionary dimension of diaconal vocation – example of St. Paul and evangelization

7. Vocation of the deacon to serve at the Altar – Eucharist and Liturgy

Evaluation

Based on comprehension of material presented in class and a written report submitted at the completion of the class.
