Syllabus for Psalms as
Prayer
Purpose:
To gain an appreciation and understanding of the psalms used
in
Morning and Evening Prayer.
Workshop
Description:
Each Aspirant will be assigned specific days from the
Psalter to
research and prepare oral and written presentations to be
given
before the Aspirancy class. Presentations given during the
last four
class dates of the year will be prepared by a team of two or
more
Aspirants.
Presentations are to include the following:
1.
Discussion of the interpretation of the
psalm.
2.
The form of the psalm, i.e. praise,
thanksgiving, etc.
3.
Concept of “fulfillment” of certain
psalms in the life of Christ.
4.
How the psalms are linked in Morning and
Evening Prayer. Is there a theme?
5.
Relationship between the psalms and the
Canticle.
6.
A 1-2 minute meditation on one of the
psalms.
7.
Sources used in the materials
presented.
Performance Evaluation:
Aspirants will be evaluated upon the
quality, completeness and understanding of the materials
presented.
Aspirants will be asked questions
concerning their presentations and the source materials
used.
Ability to work as a team will be
considered on those presentations give during the final four class
sessions.
Presentations
are to be typed and submitted to the Workshop
Facilitator.
